Back pain is a global issue where almost 90% people experience it at some point of time in their life. In Malaysia, the prevalence of low back pain (LBP) was found to be 12%, and it was rated as the ninth and fifth most common complaint in public and private primary healthcare clinics, respectively, in year 2012. Low back pain has been recognised as one of the most common causes of work disability and accounts for a large proportion of workers’ compensation costs. Non-specific low back pain (NSLBP) remains a major occupational problem affecting the general wellbeing of working adults and manual material handling (MMH) is one of the main risk factors. Back belts have been used for back support in view of preventing low back pain. However, the evidence of its effectiveness is inconclusive.
